We’re honored to partner with Stray Fossa to bring you an exclusive look into their latest single “It’s Nothing”, out wherever you listen to music on November 19. “It’s Nothing” comes in the wake of Laridae, the band’s first full-length EP, and continues their streak of releasing fresh, must-listen indie dream pop. With the three-piece’s signature atmospheric guitar, powerful basslines, intricate percussion, and dreamy vocals on display in full force, this track is sure to impress.

Boxcar Collective’s Zack Holden sat down with Stray Fossa’s Nick Evans, Will Evans, and Zach Blount, who shared their thoughts on this new gem.

Zack Holden: So, tell me about the new single “It’s Nothing” dropping on November 19.

Zach Blount: It’s a follow up to the EP [Laridae]. We’ve been playing it live for at least the last couple weeks—

Will Evans: Probably couple months.

Nick Evans: The whole last tour we had it on the setlist.

Zach: That’s true; we did play it last tour. The lyrics have changed slightly. We got into the studio and changed some parts up, so it has evolved a little bit. We wanted to get on the road and play it so that it would settle a little bit before we really got in the studio and finished tracking it. And we finished it up about a week-and-a-half or two weeks ago.

Will: It was quick. It was about five days, and then we finished it up.

Zach: It’s ready to go. We’re excited about it for sure.

Nick: I think coming off that we spent a long time on those songs for the last EP [Laridae], and we were still in studio mode, even going on tour. It was easy to put that hat back on, and just kinda get back in, and say, “Hey, you know we have this song.” I think things have changed. I mean, we’re just about if we have something ready we can release it; you know, if we feel that it’s ready, and it’s at a state where we can feel proud of it. With the way that things have changed and the way that the music industry is now, you can just put it out. Let people listen already.

Will: Kinda for your own sanity, too.

Zach: Yeah, we don’t like sitting on things very long. We kinda start to hate it. [Laughing]

Nick: It’s too easy to revisit. [Laughing]

Will: And we used to think that that’s the way: you have to sit on things for months and months. It’s better just to be working on new stuff.

Nick: If you could put it in a lockbox, and say, “We’re not gonna touch this again, and we’re gonna sit on it for whatever reason because it’s better to release in November — I don’t know — like next year or something.” But you’re gonna open it up, and you’re gonna start to think about redoing things, and it just becomes a bad road to go down.

Will: There’s probably stuff in that’s not perfect.

Nick: Oh, one hundred percent. But that’s what I think makes any track kinda feel grounded.

Zach: Gives it character.

Nick: Exactly.
