who they are

Daddy’s Beemer is a critically-acclaimed slacker rock meets college rock three-piece comprised of Brady Sklar, Wesley Heaton, and Dan Fetterolf that originally formed at Clemson University and is now based in Charleston, SC.

why you should listen

The band name. ‘Nuff said. The first time I heard it I literally laughed out loud. Maybe it’s just because here at UVA — where people casually pay upwards of $1200 for a college apartment and use Gucci bags of nearly the same price as daily backpacks (no, that’s not a typo) — the phrase “Daddy’s Beemer” enters the common lexicon in more than just top-tier sororities. Personally, I just find it to be brilliantly tongue-in-cheek, and this same raw intelligence and dry wit carries through to their music. It’s a shame that Daddy’s Beemer didn’t come of age during the late-nineties/early-aughts alt-rock revival age because they would have followed in step with immortalized groups like the Killers and Jimmy Eat World. The first time I heard “Eventualities”, I had that delightful deja vu moment when you hear a song for the first time and immediately think, “I feel like I’ve heard this before, but damn it’s much better than I remember.” In terms of sound, Daddy’s Beemer deftly combines grunge and punk, toned down with pop elements that make it accessible to the masses. (Imagine a mixing the Gin Blossoms and Oasis with the Killers and a little bit of Foo Fighters thrown in for good measure.)

what you should listen to

Their 2018 EP Pucker is a must listen, with standout singles including “Joan” and “Eventualities”. “Serotonin”, released earlier this year as the B-side of the single with “Indoors”, also slaps.
